In close collaboration with the star architect Norman Foster, Tétris took on the challenge of renovating and extending the 60 rooms and suites of the Dolder Grand as well as of all public areas including lobby, lounge and restaurant in just two years. Surely one of the most challenging projects. The very high requirements of the Canton and the City of Zurich concerning the preservation of the historical building placed highest demands with respect to quality and attention to detail.
Historical timber construction had to be reconciled with state-of-the-art building services, current fire-protection requirements and the luxury demands of the guests. The large door systems and the solid-wood ornaments on the renovated ceilings reveal the charm of the historical building. Natural stone tiles for the bathrooms were carefully selected in the quarry, which involved a high challenge with respect to the schedule. 90 % of the samples were produced and submitted for acceptance in the original size. The materials chosen by United Designers London included leaf gold, high-quality solid oak wood, smoked-oak parquet flooring and fabric covering of the headboards underline the luxury of the hotel.
