Challenge

The brief from the client was “How will a Digital Business Services HQ look like in the future? Let’s design for that now.”
For the business service, payment processing and contact center company, innovation and providing spaces that enable people to perform at their best were core to the design of the three floors for the new company. Flexibility with the ability to scale had to be provided for alongside catering for the high usage of an ‘always-on’ contact center.
Solution

The concept for defining an aspirational and leading space for the client head office is based on the company logo colours and its interlocking shapes.
The bright green and blue of the logo with a contrasting dark blue are each allocated as a primary tone for the three different floors of the company creating an identity for the type of activity per floor. Neutral greys and wooden paneling with natural light and external views combine with the extensive use of plants to create a refreshing environment that promotes wellbeing for staff.
The workspaces combine open plan seating with breakaway areas that are both playful and relaxing including mini-kitchenettes and café areas with snooker, foosball, and PlayStation booths.
This ‘interlocking’ design of many types of multi-use spaces with re-purposed and new furniture solutions encourages mobility and collaboration from the business, sales, and innovation hub, through to the legal services and call center, up to the executive suites and offices.

            <p>Following a successful project some two years ago, Tétris was assigned to design an office for Mondelez in Johannesburg for the second time. Deciding to relocate within the same node of Woodmead, Mondelez gave Tétris the unique opportunity to better the original design delivered in the first fit-out.</p>\r\n
            <p>As the only tenants in this campus style building, we created a big impact for the Mondelez reception area. A flurry of colour greets visitors upon arrival, with an up-and-over custom designed timber feature cocooning the timber and white reception counter. The bold use of the Mondelez purple flanks the counter and adorns the logo, which is also cleverly used in areas throughout the space.</p>\r\n
            <p>As much existing furniture was re-used as possible, supplemented with new interesting joinery pieces and custom designed and purpose-made features wherever possible. Tangerine and cyan balance the purple in different areas. Meeting booths use a combination of these colours to create hubs where impromptu collaboration can take place.</p>\r\n
            <p>Colour demarcates areas of interest. A library for example, boasts colourful up-and-overs; the canteen has bold wall finishes and furniture choices; and the meeting rooms with carpets and colourful brand wall graphics create a buzz. A neutral palette dominates the office areas, with hints of colour in lockers, coffee stations, informal meeting areas, and subtle carpet designs.</p>\r\n
            <p>Tétris was responsible for the design, detailing, project management, procurement and project delivery of this fit-out which took 12 weeks to successfully deliver. We also assisted with the move management, oversaw the IT and audio-visual equipment delivery, as well as managing the relationships between the global corporate real estate team and the local team who would ultimately be the end users of the space. Tétris ensured that the snags were completed timeously, and as always that the client was happy, informed and ready to use their new space on go-live day.</p>

            <p>Tétris worked in close collaboration with the client to dream up a cutting-edge space for software developer Glucode’s Sandton offices.</p>\r\n
            <p>Visitors entering the reception area are greeted with a friendly wave from a spaceman statue that sits proudly on top of a fanned paper-like reception counter front, the facets of which are housed in a strong timber frame. The feature wall behind the reception desk is formed from vertical timber slats in the same timber, creating highlights and dramatic shadows. A simple linear light adorns the counter while a wildly textural slate wall stands adjacent. This wall runs along the length of the office and glimpses of it provide a deep and textural element that dramatically ties the interior together. A line of tangerine acoustic chairs provide a pop of bold colour in the waiting area.</p>\r\n
            <p>The same shade of orange is mirrored in the meeting space, in the form of soft leather for the meeting chairs. The sculptural furniture in this space is crafted from black frames and is fully visible through the three metre high glazing that separates the cellular and open plan spaces.</p>\r\n
            <p>The open plan work areas consist of less formal team tables that allow for flexible ways of working where staff can come and go, finding a space to work when they are stationed at the office. The charcoal walls and floors are lifted by the strong wallpaper that features inspirational icons depicted in a Modern Cubist custom designed graphic: Nelson Mandela, Steve Jobs, Ray Eames, Einstein and Picasso.</p>\r\n
            <p>Warmth is achieved with the use of timbers and plants that balance out the cool greys of the finishes. Timber slats provide visual divides in the working areas. The break-away kitchen is also carefully crafted from timber, featuring cork bar stools. Collaboration is key throughout this pause area and is further encouraged in the informal seating, which comprises two rocking chairs in a warm red and a pencil shaving inspired green bench. The space is one where innovation happens on a daily basis!</p>\r\n
            <p>Tétris took care to deliver a design and interior fit-out that constantly encourages staff to engage in collaboration and teamwork.</p>
