FDJ UNITED, a leading player in Europe's gaming and lottery sector, entrusted JLL and its subsidiary Tetris with the complete metamorphosis of its historic technology campus in Vitrolles. This strategic 10,000 m² site, dating back to the 1970s, required a total overhaul to accommodate new collaborative ways of working and support team growth.
This major project, located on a site that houses the group's national data centers, presented several key challenges for FDJ UNITED:
- Consolidate its 770 employees (with a projection of 900), who were previously scattered across three separate buildings.
- Streamline daily workflows and enhance collaboration.
- Harmonize the work environments with the group's other sites.
- Promote well-being at work.
- Significantly reduce the campus's energy footprint.
Tétris was specifically tasked with designing innovative interior spaces to transform the workplace experience and reinforce the FDJ UNITED brand identity, as well as managing the phased employee relocations. This initiative was part of a comprehensive strategy led by JLL France, which also included user project management advisory (AMO), a technical redesign with JLL Engineering, and change management support for the transition to a flex office environment designed for 600 workstations.
Co-design and bespoke solutions: A project inspired by FDJ's identity
To meet this challenge, Tétris developed a bold creative concept rooted in the world of gaming. This approach led to a bespoke design concept that assigned a unique function and identity to each building while maintaining overall visual consistency.
The Main building: Embodying the brand in the workspace
As the nerve center of the campus, this building was designed for collaboration, comfort, and efficiency, in line with the teams' needs and work patterns.
- Identity and Wayfinding: The corporate colors (blue, white, and red) serve as an intuitive navigation system.
- Bespoke Design: Perforated screens reminiscent of lottery grids and rounded furniture inspired by Lotto balls create a subtle yet functional branded environment.
- Signature Space: The monumental, full-height reception hall creates an impressive sense of verticality, emphasized by overlooking walkways, embodying an open and connected corporate culture.
The Arlequin building: A dynamic and flexible bub
Completely redesigned as a collaborative hub, this building fosters a dynamic and playful atmosphere. Colored acoustic curtains and flexible furniture allow the large open-plan floors to be reconfigured to host everything from plenary sessions to creative workshops, fostering innovation. Colored floor markings and a vibrant color palette instill a stimulating energy conducive to innovation and collective intelligence.
The Villa: A training center pooted in Provençal heritage
Transformed into a training center, the Villa celebrates the campus's Provençal roots. Primarily intended to welcome FDJ's partner retailers from all over France, it offers an authentic Mediterranean immersion while maintaining the coherence of the group's visual identity.
Custom technical solutions for specific needs
The project also includes highly specialized technical spaces, such as the control room, which is equipped with a video wall for real-time monitoring of FDJ UNITED's operations. These custom-designed areas meet the specific requirements of a strategic technology site, blending functionality, security, and aesthetics.
Outcome: A high-performing campus and a strengthened corporate culture
The success of this large-scale workplace design project was driven by several key factors:
- Expert management in an occupied site: The project's success depended on the ability to work without disrupting operations. Tétris expertly managed employee relocations and the complex phasing of the work, ensuring full business continuity.
- A deep understanding of strategic challenges: The JLL and Tétris teams successfully translated FDJ UNITED's ambitions into concrete design solutions.
- Close client collaboration: The project was shaped by numerous co-creation workshops, ensuring a perfect alignment between the design and user needs.
- Exemplary stakeholder coordination, which was essential for a project of this scale.
This major project, carried out over three years without any disruption to employee activities, has provided FDJ UNITED with a modern, energy-efficient campus perfectly suited to its technological operations. The new spaces now foster synergies between teams and fully embody the identity of this iconic French company, blending heritage and innovation in a workspace that is inspiring, welcoming, and functional.
This spectacular transformation perfectly illustrates the ability of Tétris and JLL to deliver workplace design projects that address the strategic, human, and environmental challenges of modern businesses.
