Tétris oversaw the transformation of the new W Florence hotel. This lifestyle hotel, part of the Marriott Bonvoy portfolio, occupies a prime location in Florence's beating heart at Piazza dell'Unità Italiana, mere steps from the iconic Duomo and the magnificent Basilica of Santa Maria Novella, immersed in the city's premier shopping district.
Complete transformation achieving LEED Gold and WELL Silver certification
The hotel is housed within a historic rationalist-modernist building designed in 1968 by Florentine architect Lando Bartoli, rising from the former site of the prestigious Grand Hotel Majestic and the historic Banca Popolare di Novara, complete with its imposing two-story vault.
Spanning 12,000 square meters across six above-ground floors and three basement levels, the entire building underwent comprehensive redevelopment to meet rigorous LEED Gold and WELL Silver sustainability standards.
Our high-end work encompassed the total renovation of this building, which had remained unused for decades, through extensive structural interventions and complete facade restoration that honored the original brutalist aesthetic.
Avant-garde design meets luxury comfort
Italian firm Genius Loci Architettura (GLA) led the architectural design, while international studio AvroKO reimagined the interior design of common areas. The result delivers striking visual impact, seamlessly weaving together bold color accents, retro geometric motifs, and premium materials.
To deliver truly forward-thinking hospitality, we constructed five floors of guest rooms with completely renewed systems alongside new common spaces that flow across multiple levels.
The hotel features 119 elegantly designed rooms and suites, highlighted by 16 exclusive suites and a spectacular Penthouse, complemented by seamlessly integrated indoor and outdoor spaces. At the heart lies an elegant central courtyard open to the public, hosting diverse culinary experiences that celebrate both local and international gastronomic traditions.
The property encompasses two restaurants, flexible meeting rooms that marry contemporary design with cutting-edge technology—perfect for everything from intimate gatherings to large corporate conferences—a wellness center with fitness facilities, and a panoramic rooftop terrace.
Living spaces that embrace the city
The reception area showcases a captivating mural by London's Adam Ellis Studio, depicting a flourishing Florentine hanging garden populated with exotic wildlife that evokes the Medici family's legendary patronage.
An intimate internal courtyard, partially enclosed and suffused with vibrant 1960s energy, extends through the hotel's core, becoming a genuine urban plaza enhanced with industrial-inspired design elements and furnishings. This versatile space houses premium common areas and restaurants, designed to accommodate both private events and social gatherings. The décor features seating with distinctive Italian retro appeal, sumptuous fabrics, and exceptional local materials, all elevated by geometric flooring and abundant greenery. Here thrives the W Lounge, destined to become Florence's newest social hub, anchored by an exclusive elliptical bar crafted from blue lava stone.
The dining venues include the Michelin-starred Japanese and Korean restaurant Akira Back Florence on the ground level, and Zefiro Rooftop, a panoramic terrace showcasing the city's architectural icons. This exclusive space hosts events and al fresco relaxation, positioning itself as Florence's newest glamorous destination for locals and sophisticated travelers alike.
Contemporary elegance embraces Florentine heritage
The rooms and suites showcase refined design and luxury appointments, blending exquisite textures with sophisticated decorative elements that give traditional materials a contemporary interpretation. The color palette honors Florence through evocative hues including deep emerald, Medici red, and royal blue. A dramatic lighting installation above each bed echoes Florence's famous archways, from Palazzo Pitti to the Vasari Corridor. Expansive windows, terraces, and private balconies frame spectacular city vistas, capturing historic rooftops and iconic landmarks. The Penthouse represents W's distinctive take on the classic presidential suite, offering an unparalleled Florence perspective through its 140-square-meter private terrace with breathtaking views encompassing the Duomo, the Cathedral of San Lorenzo, and the complete urban panorama.
