Imagine two teams who do not know each other, a controlled budget, and a shared ambition: to deliver a sustainable and collaborative office fit-out inspired by permaculture. This was the challenge our teams took on a communication agency based in Brussels.

In this demanding context, where creativity, collaboration and purpose are essential, every constraint became a design driver. From the very first reflections, the objective was clear: to create a workspace that goes beyond pure functionality and embodies strong human, environmental and cultural values. A place designed as a living ecosystem, serving both the collective and everyday uses.

The essence of the project: a meaningful sustainable office fit-out

This sustainable office fit-out project is based on a simple and committed philosophy: working together as one team, prioritising reuse, and placing sustainability at the heart of every decision.

For GOPA, the goal was not to create a standardised office, but a space faithful to four essential pillars: humility, respect, multiculturalism and sustainability.
These values shaped the entire project. They are reflected both in the spatial organisation and in the choice of materials and furniture. The fit-out thus becomes a true tool for expressing identity, coherent, sincere and aligned with the client’s commitments.

Permaculture as the founding principle of the fit-out

Permaculture naturally emerged as the guiding thread of the project. Like a nourishing garden, the office is organised around a central agora, a true living and unifying heart.

From this anchor point, the spaces unfold organically on either side of the floorplate. This organisation offers a dual reading: architectural, in the overall structure of the space, and spatial, in the fluid and legible layout of uses.
This sustainable and collaborative office fit-out project encourages interaction, cross-functionality and a subtle balance between focus and collaboration, while respecting the initial constraints.

A sensory experience inspired by an urban garden

Walking through these offices feels like a genuine sensory journey. The fit-out draws inspiration from an urban garden, where natural materials tell a calming and authentic story.

Terracotta evokes the warmth of the earth, sage green recalls foliage, while clay grounds the space in a raw and sincere materiality.
Wool, wood and other natural materials contribute to a soft, almost meditative atmosphere. The result is an environment conducive to well-being and concentration, without ever compromising the openness and transparency expected in a contemporary collaborative workspace.

The “brocante pods”, a signature of collaborative offices

The deliberate absence of closed offices gave rise to a distinctive solution: the “brocante pods”. These spaces punctuate the floorplate and offer more intimate alternatives for focusing, exchanging ideas or temporarily withdrawing.

The second-hand furniture fully embodies the project’s values. It reflects a humble and environmentally respectful approach, while celebrating multiculturalism. Pieces from different backgrounds coexist harmoniously. Each item carries a story and contributes to the collective narrative of the space.

Authentic collaboration at the heart of success

The true driving force behind this sustainable and collaborative office fit-out inspired by permaculture lies in the relationship of trust built with the client.

Responsive, committed and mindful of budget constraints, GOPA became a genuine creative partner. This sincere collaboration made it possible to go beyond the initial scope of the project and integrate additional touches that reinforce the identity of the space. The result is a workplace that truly reflects the client: authentic, sustainable and deeply human.

Conclusion – Turning constraints into sustainable innovation

This project demonstrates that with clear values, creativity and close collaboration, constraints can become powerful catalysts for innovation. Office fit-out then becomes a living ecosystem, serving the collective, well-being and sustainability.
